Mildred O. Mohwinkle, 85, of Waukon, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, following a brief illness. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 5, at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon with Rev. Steve Campbell officiating. Burial was in the Dorchester Methodist Cemetery, Dorchester. Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mildred Opal Linde was born April 5, 1919, in Taber, Alberta, Canada, the daughter of Walter and Olga (Hefte) Linde. At the age of 11, she moved with her family to the Dorchester area where her parents were originally from. She attended Dorchester area schools and Spring Grove, Minn., High School before going to college in La Crosse, Wis., where she got her teaching certification. Mildred taught school at the rural "Bee School" and the Dorchester School for many years.
She was married first to Ed G. Hahn, who died in 1941. In 1948 she married Alvin Mohwinkle, who died in 2002. While living in Dorchester, and until its closing, she was a member of St. John's Methodist Church in Dorchester. Mildred enjoyed reading and sewing.
Survivors include a son, Edward A. "Ed" Hahn of Dorchester; a sister, Lotus (Gene) Wilder of Waukon; and a sister-in-law, Lillian Linde of Lanesboro, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, and two brothers, Garland and Leland Linde. Casketbearers were Al Behn, Gaylord Spores, Larry Linde, Keith Schroeder, Truman Espelien, and Marv Beardmore.
