James E. Thesing, 74, of Waukon died Sunday, March 21, 2010, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 26, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Lycurgus Cemetery, rural Waukon. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon where there will be a 4 p.m. scripture service.
James Edward Thesing was born May 9, 1935 in Nodine, MN, the son of Anton and Lila (McCabe) Thesing. His parents moved to a farm near Lewiston, MN, where he attended Lewiston elementary school and Lewiston High School. January 18, 1958 he married Colette Kaczorowski at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Winona, MN. Jim and Colette moved to a farm near Lanesboro, MN, where they farmed until 1969. They moved to a farm near Lewiston, MN, where they milked 150 dairy cows for two years before moving to Waukon in 1972. Jim went to work for Bob Collins and Impro Products in Waukon. In 1986 he purchased Jets Meat Processing where he received several awards for his meat processing before retiring in 2004. After retiring he drove the Amish around the local area and to other states when asked.
Jim was a member of St. Mary’s Lycurgus Catholic Church and was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus council 1570, Farm Bureau and Iowa Meat Processors Association. Jim was also very active with the Waukon Threshing Days Committee. Jim enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, hunting, gardening, canning, telling jokes, dancing - especially polka dancing, square dancing and waltzing. Jim loved to raise and work with driving horses.
Survivors include his wife, Colette Thesing of Waukon; his children, Monica Thesing of St. Paul, MN, Tom Thesing of Dorchester, Tim (Christa) Thesing of Monroe, WI, Donna (Greg) Brink of Waukon, Theresa (Fidel) Moncada of Waterloo, Patty Livingston of South Haven, MN, Neil (Corlis) Thesing of Oakdale, MN, Andy (Sherri) Thesing of Dorchester, Mary Beth Thesing of Decorah, Lori Anne Reyes of Waukon, Jim Joe Thesing of Dorchester and Jennifer (Jose) Sanchez of Richfield, MN; 18 grandchildren; four brothers, Anthony “Bud” (Doris) Thesing and Gene (Judy) Thesing both of Lewiston, MN, Chuck (Janis) Thesing of Seattle, WA and Bernie (Susie) Thesing of Sulphur Springs, TX; a sister, Betty (Cliff) Blaha of Ettrick, WI; two sisters-in-law, Alice Thesing of Mendota Heights, MN and Jeannie Henderickson of Moose Lake, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Patrick James; a granddaughter, Karla Thesing; four brothers, Paul, Gerald and his wife Juanita, Dale and Edward Thesing.
Honorary casketbearers are George Ashbacher, Dominick Damiano, Dave Duncklee, Bob Heffern, Lynn Morrow, John Prohaski, Rich Schulte, Paul and Tom Weighner. Casketbearers are Tom, Tim, Neil, Andy and Jim Joe Thesing, Greg Brink, Fidel Moncada and Jose Sanchez.
