Wayne Vincent Jones, 63, of Wyoming, IA, died Saturday, March 20 at his home.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, March 27 at the Moody Family Cemetery in McGregor. Lahey Funeral Home of Wyoming is in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers are Dale Wenndt, Chet Lief, Roger Quam, Tim Poduska, Warren Kiner and Paul Snip.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley of Wyoming; children Tammy (Greg) DeHaai of W. Des Moines, John Jones of Des Moines, Scott Jones of Postville, Loretta Jones of Grimes, Charlotte Jones of Des Moines, and Sarah Jones of Chadron, NE; step-children Ben (Jen) Bahl of Wyoming and Jennifer (Dr. Mathew) Ullom of Fort Collins, CO; two grandchildren, Jacob and Samantha DeHaai of Des Moines; seven step-grandchildren, Dylan, Lorelei, Aubrey, Alaina and James Bahl of Wyoming and Noah and Levi Ullom of Fort Collins, CO; and two brothers, Leo of Romeoville, IL and Neil (Marie) of New Hampton; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Frank.
Wayne Jones was born January 12, 1947 in La Crosse, WI to John and Irene Ryan Jones of Waukon. He attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School and graduated from Waukon High School in 1965.
He served as an Army medic in a field hospital in Japan during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968.
Wayne attended Calmar Area I for construction; and Metropolitan College, Minneapolis, MN, where he earned his degree in alcohol and drug counseling. He worked as a substance abuse counselor in Minneapolis, MN, Independence, Audubon, Council Bluffs, and Ponca City, OK. He later worked with the homeless in Davenport.
Wayne organized more than 50 Alcoholics Anonymous groups across the country and sponsored numerous recovering alcoholics, helping them overcome their disease.
He was a member of AA, AmVets Post 64, American Legion Post 259 of Wyoming, Nights of Columbus and Jaycees.Waukon, Iowa newspaper, THE STANDARD, March 24, 2010
