Dale Herbert Hartong 1935-2010

Dale Herbert Hartong, age 74 of Lansing, passed away Thursday, March 18th, 2010 at Veteran’s Memorial Hospital in Waukon following a brief battle with cancer. Dale was born April 22nd, 1935 in Waukon to Herbert and Selma (Marti) Hartong. Dale attended and graduated from Waukon High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served 2 ½ year term in Germany.

Dale was united in marriage to Judy Dee June 22nd, 1958 at Evangelical United Brethren Church in Lansing. Two children were born to this union. Dale and Judy were active dairy farmers for more than 30 years and continue to crop farm in rural Lansing.

Dale was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed coon hunting and deer hunting, trapping, fishing and gardening. Dale and Judy enjoyed many fishing trips on the Mississippi and in Canada with friends. Dale was instrumental in founding the Little Switzerland Ridge Runners snowmobile club. He and Judy enjoyed snowmobiling for many years. Dale was a very social person, and enjoyed playing cards, going to stock car races and most recently, camping.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 51 years, Judy; daughter and son-in-law Cindy and Tony Arnold of Greenback, TN; son and daughter-in-law Scott and Sherry Hartong of Waukon; four granddaughters, Chrissy Crouch and Kelly Jo Arnold, Greenback, TN, and Malory and Jenna Hartong, Waukon; three great-grandchildren, Carson Crouch, Caden Arnold, and Harlie Belle Hartong. Also surviving is one sister, Helen Schneider, Waukon and his beloved dog, Suzie Q. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Lorraine Yund of Minneapolis, MN.

Private family services were held Saturday at Lansing Ridge Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by the Thornburg-DeVries Funeral Home of Lansing.
