OBITUARY
Hannah Ogden was born Sept. 1st, 1821, at Berry, Lancashire, England. She was married at the age of 21 to Thomas Compton and in company with her husband and father she came to America in 1845 and settled at Peoria, Ill., where she made her home until 1870, and where her husband died in 1867. On March 16, 1871, she was married to William Mitchell, who died Dec. 29, 1891. They moved to Postville, Iowa, where she has made her home ever since, except when traveling, which she did extensively, having been in every state in the union. She was never a mother, but at different times had adopted six children, four of them being reared to maturity, they being - George Castello, of New York City; Mrs. Emma Saunders, of Denver, Colo; Mrs. James Parker, of Postville, Iowa; and Miss Maud Lina Rea, of Trenton, New Jersey. She was generous, kind and sympathetic in her days of prosperity, ever ready to help the needy. If she had faults, and who has not? let them die with her, and pray for her rest and peace in the better world.
A.V..P.
The subject of the above sketch will be better known to our readers as Madam Mitchell, whose occupation was that of an astrologist, or fortune teller, and in her earlier years she accumulated considerable property by her art. But as years advanced her business declined, and before her death her worldly possessions had all passed into other hands, and last summer, at her own request, she was admitted to the county farm, where on Saturday last she passed away, at the advanced age of nearly 81 years. Her death was due to the infirmities consequent upon old age. The remains were brought to Postville last Sunday, where after a brief prayer service at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Parker, there were laid to rest in Postville cemetery.CARD OF THANKS
To those who in any manner assisted us after the death or during the funeral exercises of Mrs. Hannah Mitchell, we desire to express our heartfelt and sincere thanks.
MR. AND MRS. J. A. PARKER_____________________________
Note: The 'Woodmansee' book doesn't show Hannah Mitchell, but does have Helen M. d. 1905, w/o William Mitchell. This most likely is Hannah.
