Mrs. Oscar Rumph, 43, was found dead in her home at 1520 W. 9th St., about 8:45 p.m. Thursday and death was attributed to an overdose of sedative pills. Dr. Sidney D. Smith, county coroner, termed the death "a suicide." The body was discovered in an unfinished basement room by her husband. He had called police shortly after 7 p.m. asking for help in locating his wife, whom he said was missing. He discovered her body about an hour and a half later. Authorities said the Rumphs had been using the basement as sleeping quarters during the recent hot weather. A box containing only one sleeping pill was found in the home. The coronor said Mrs. Rumph had been given a month's supply quite recently. He added that there would be no autopsy.

She was born Jeanne M. McGeough, July 28, 1912, at Waterville, the daughter of Frank and Frances Smith McGeough. She was married to Oscar Rumph, June 7, 1932, at Waukon. Mrs. Rumph had been a resident of Waterloo since 1940 and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Joan, at home; a son, William, at home; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank McGeough, Waukon; three brothers, Charles McGeough, Austin, Minn.; Donald McGeough, 930 W. 7th St., and Ray McGeough, La Crosse, Wis., and a sister, Mrs. Helen Schofield, Monona.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic church with the Rt. Rev. E.J. O'Hagan officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery. There will be a parish rosary recited at 8 p.m. Friday at O'Keefe & Towne Funeral Home.
