W. H. Foels Is Interred Here Last Thursday
Funeral services were held last Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at 2:00 p.m. for William H. Foels, 66, who passed away Monday, March 30, following a lingering illness.
Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig, pastor of St. Paul's was in charge of the final rites. Burial was in Postville cemetery.
William Henry Mathias Foels, son of William and Emma (Casten) Foels, was born April 8, 1886, in Post township, Allamakee county, and departed this life after a lingering period of declining health on March 30, 1953, at his late home in Postville, aged 66 years, 11 months and 22 days.
Mr. Foels was received into active membership in the Lutheran Church, also in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Postville, on March 31, 1901.
Mr. Foels was united in marriage with Emma Schroeder of Luana on February 17, 1909. To this union four daughters were born, all of whom survive the passing of their father.
Mr. Foels spent the early years of his life in the parental home on farms in the Postville community.
Following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Foels established their home on a farm three miles north of Postville. They then purchased a farm north of Cresco, where they remained several years. The family then returned to the Luana community for several years. The family home was then established on a farm near Ridgeway. In 1938 the family moved to Harmony, Minnesota. For the past ten years, subsequent to the death of Mrs. Foels, Mr Foels has made his home in Postville. During the last years of his earthly life he served as town marshal of Postville.
Mr. Foels was united in marriage with Mrs. Cora Lennon on September 16, 1948. Mrs. Foels survives his passing.
Left to mourn his passing are his widow, Mrs. Cora Lennon Foels; four daughters: Norma, Mrs. Carl Diederichs of Harmony, Minnesota, Irene, Mrs. Clarence Helgerson of Waterloo, Ruth, Mrs. Durwood Arneson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Wilma, Mrs. Edward Capper of Harmony, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren, one brother, Otto Foels of Postville; two sisters: Mrs. Fred J. Heins and Mrs. Amanda Meyer, both of Postville, as well as many other relatives and friends.
Mr. Foels was preceded in death by his first wife, his parents, and one sister, Louise, Mrs. Walter Brandt.
