Richard Folsom, son of Thomas and Eliza Ann (Ewing) Folsom, was born February 3, 1886 on a farm near Frankville, Iowa.
He died Monday, March 9, 1959, in Cedar Rapids at the age of 73 years.
He was one of a family of ten children. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Earl Hammel of Frankville; three brothers, Melbert of St. Cloud, Minnesota, Gilbert of Mechanicsville and Milo of Postville.
On January 26, 1911 Richard Folsom was united in marriage to Mabel Cora Harris. To this union were born three children, Mrs. Lester (Nina) Jagerson of Decorah, Donald of Postville and Thelma, who passed away in infancy. He is also survived by one grandson and one great-granddaughter.
The major portion of his life was spent in this community in the occupation of farming. During the past 14 years he resided in Cedar Rapids. It was in this city that he was critically injured in an auto accident in March, 1958, and after being confined for a year in a nursing home, he succumbed to his injuries on Monday, March 9.
He was a member of the United Brethren Church of Bethel. He was also a former member of the Masonic Lodge and Odd Fellows Lodge.
Funeral rites were held at the Schutte Funeral home last Thursday, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Walter T. Martin in charge of the rites. Burial was in the Postville cemetery.
