Ferdinand Haas Is Suddenly Summoned

The family and friends of Ferd Haas, a well known farmer of this neighborhood, were sorely shocked and grieved by his sudden death from apoplexy on Thursday morning last. His farm is the former Schreiber place two miles northwest of town. He was apparently hearty and in full enjoyment of health when overtaken by a stroke of apoplexy while engaged in farm duties, his lifeless body being found shortly afterwards by his son, Clarence.

Deceased was the youngest son of the Ferdinand Haas family and was born July 29th, 50 years ago on the home place in Makee Township. Eight years ago he purchased the former home of his wife, Elizabeth Schreiber, to whom he was married on Sept. 8, 1896. Two children were born to their union, a little daughter who died in infancy, and the son, Clarence, now grown to young manhood, who with his mother deeply mourn the loss of a fond husband and father, and who have the unbounded sympathy of all in their loss.

Mr. Haas was the youngest of a family of three surviving sons and five daughters, namely; Mrs. Thomas Teeling, Mrs. Michael Schobert, Mrs. Peter Zabolitzky, Mrs. Frank Troendle of this county; Mrs. William Schobert of Chicago, and Daniel, Benjamin, and John, the latter of Florence, S.Dak. All were present at the funeral except Daniel who is critically ill.

The funeral was held Sunday morning at St. Patrick's Church in this city, the services being conducted by Revs. Stuart O'Donnell and McNamara. The edifice was filled with sorrowing friends and neighbors who held the deceased in the highest esteem for his splendid qualities. The remains were conveyed to the Lycurgus cemetery, followed by an exceptionally large cortege, including members of the Knights of Columbus order who were present in body.

Among those attending the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. John Shields of Madison, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. James Carroll of Caledonia, and Miss Teeling of LaCrosse.
