Delbert William Kohrs, 68, Independence resident, died Wednesday, April 23, 1980 at his home of an apparent heart attack.

He was born Oct. 25, 1911, the son of John Carl Kohrs and Amanda (Schroeder) Kohrs. He was married to Hilma Augusta Kuhse, Dec. 21, 1938, at Postville in the home of her parents.

Delbert was a retired farmer and a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Independence. He had lived in the Postville area until they moved to Independence 16 years ago. He received his education from the rural schools in Postville and was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Postville.

He is survived by his wife; 3 daughters: Mrs. Harold (Barbara) Smock of Postville, Mrs. Jack (Karen) Jaster of Ossian, and Gloria Kohrs of Cedar Rapids; 3 sons: Wesley (Judy) Kohrs of Orange, Calif., Gary Kohrs of Independence and Dennis Kohrs of Postville; and 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Silas and Donald.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 26, 1980 at 1:30 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Independence, with the Rev. Hugo Schwartz officiating. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
