Ruth Darlene Johnson, 85, of Waukon died Monday, October 26, 2009 as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident south of Waukon. Private family services were held.
Ruth Darlene Johnson was born August 24, 1924 in Waukon, the daughter of John and Ruth (Palmer) Echard.
Not long after her graduation from Waukon High School, she married Lyle Poesch. Lyle died of a medical condition in 1944 while serving in WW II with the U.S. Military.
June 24, 1946 Darlene married Howard Silas Johnson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Darlene and Howard lived in Waukon, where she was a homemaker to her family and worked as a sales clerk at Graham’s Department Store. Darlene was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Waukon and active in its women’s organizations. Fall was her favorite season with the leaves changing color and the start of the Iowa Hawkeye football season. Darlene enjoyed spending time with her family and friends as well as her devoted cats, Smokey and Muffy.
Survivors include her children, Carol (Garland) Barron of Lee’s Summit, MO and Lanny (Daisy) Johnson of Waukon; four grandchildren, Krystal Johnson, Lane (Jazmin) Johnson, Christopher (Deborah) Barron, and Jennifer (Darryl) Covinsky, and their children, Alexandra, Kennedy, Remington, and Gabriel.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Lyle and Howard; a sister, Violet Peterson; five brothers, Harold, Lee, Claude, Orville, and Kenneth Echard; a half-brother, Melvin; and a half-sister Maybelle Perrin.
