Leo Benjamin Flage, 84, Postville, Iowa, died Friday, October 23, 2009, at his home. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 26, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. at the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, rural Postville, Iowa. Student Pastor Paul Snyder will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Bethlehem Cemetery, rural Postville, Iowa.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2009, from 4-7 p.m. at the Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Postville, Iowa, and one hour before services at the church on Monday.

Leo was born on August 15, 1925, in Ludlow Township to Ben and Meta (Held) Flage. He was baptized December 13, 1925, by J. K. Widmayer. Leo attended the Ludlow Country School and Waukon High School through the 10th grade.

Leo married Jean Shafer on September 9, 1949, at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church. To this union two daughters, Pamela Smidt and Karla Flage, were born. Leo and Jean established a registered Guernsey herd on their current century farm where he enjoyed working outdoors, being in the fields, raising livestock and driving his tractors. Leo was a family man that loved spending time with all of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Leo is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean; daughters: Pamela (Warner) Smidt of Platteville, WI, Karla Flage (Jeff Polfer) of Postville; brother, Irvin (Lois) Flage of Decorah; grandchildren Brian, Kristal, Kelly, Sarah, Erin and Abby; and great grandchildren Tyler, Dereck, Caleb and Cody.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Ralph and Albert, and a sister, Esther Kiesau.

Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Postville, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
