Lillian M. Wuennecke, 91, of La Crescent, Minn., and formerly of New Albin, Iowa, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009, at the Claddagh House in La Crescent, Minn.
She was born June 13, 1918, in Iowa Township, Allamakee County, Iowa, to George W. C. Meyer and Caroline Meyer. On Oct. 21, 1936, Lillian married Louis W. Breeser and they later divorced. On Dec. 19, 1965, she married Roy Wuennecke in Winona, Minn. They lived in New Albin, Iowa until August of 1998 when they moved to La Crescent. On Sept. 17, 1998, Roy preceded Lillian in death. Lillian was a longtime member of St. John’s United Church of Christ. She was employed at Control Data in Spring Grove, Minn., and then the Lansing Company in Lansing, Iowa, until her retirement in 1983.
Survivors include one daughter, Lila (Larry) Cina, Viroqua, Wis.; four sons: Gilman (Luise) Breeser and Melvin (Joyce) Breeser, both of La Crescent; Gerald (Delores) Breeser, Waukon, Iowa, and Randy (Diane) Breeser, La Crosse; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Gladys Heitman, New Albin.
In addition to her first and second husbands, Lillian was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Casey Lynn Cina; and one sister and brothers-in-law, Irma and John Johnson and Elmer Heitman.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s United Church of Christ, (Wheatland Church) rural New Albin. Rev. Paul Burgess will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the New Albin Community Center on Tuesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be given to St. John’s United Church of Christ, rural New Albin, Franciscan Skemp Hospice, or to the donor’s choice.
