Mildred Vick, 87, of Decorah, Iowa died Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah.

Mildred Joyce (Johnson) Vick was born March 12, 1922, the daughter of Albert and Ida (Lee) Johnson, near Waukon. Mildred was baptized March 26, 1922, in Glenwood Lutheran Church and was confirmed June 30, 1935, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon. Mildred attended rural country school near Waukon and graduated from Waukon High School May 29, 1939. Mildred married Norman Vick Nov. 14, 1940, in Glenwood Township. They lived in Glenwood Township and Mildred was the telephone operator at the Nesset switchboard for the Glenwood Telephone Exchange for seven years. Mildred worked for 27 years for DECO Products. In 1960, they moved to Freeport and then into Decorah in 1986. Mildred was a member of the Glenwood Lutheran Church, the Friendship Circle and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

Mildred is survived by her seven children: LeRoy (Bernice) Vick, Marion, Iowa; Carolyn (Norman) Nikkelson, Decorah; Roger (Randi) Vick, Caledonia, Minn.; Ronald Vick, Prairie du Chien, Wis.; Darrell Vick, Decorah; Curtis (Jan) Vick, Decorah; and Marcella (David) Tveter, Rosemount, Minn.; 19 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers: Gordon Johnson, Marion; and Abner (Mary) Johnson, Watertown, S.D.; one sister, Ruth McClurg, Viroqua, Wis.; and one sister-in-law, Helen Vick, Decorah.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, on July 1, 1988; one grandson, Travis Vick; three brothers: Kenneth Johnson, Hartley Johnson and Donald (Darlyne) Johnson; two sisters-in-law, Carolla Johnson and Irene Johnson; two brothers-in-law, Clinton McClurg and Vernon Vick; five sisters-in-law: Myrtle (Bennie) Boe, Hilda (Emil) Jevne, Eleanor (Walter) Womeldorf, Gladys (Don) Engen Pecinovsky and Cora (Gordon) Ostrander.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 12, at the Glenwood Lutheran Church, with Rev. Douglas Mathison presiding. Burial was in the Glenwood East Cemetery, rural Decorah. Friends called Sunday from 3 until 6 p.m., at the Schluter - Balik Funeral Home in Decorah and after 10 a.m., at the church Monday morning.
