Rites Held For Eugene E. Owen
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, at 2:00 p.m., at the Community Presbyterian Church for E. E. Owen, 86, who passed away at Postville Hospital on December 17, following a short illness.
Rev. Walter T. Martin, pastor of the Community Church, was in charge of the rites. Burial was in Postville cemetery.
Eugene E. Owen, second son of Warren and Sabina Maguire Owen, was born at Horicon, Wisconsin, December 28, 1867, and passed away at the Postville Community Hospital, Thursday, December 17, following a short illness.
At the age of six years he came with his parents to Iowa and settled on a farm near Cherry Valley.
When a young man he started farming west of Frankville. On September 26, 1900 he was united in marriage to Melissa A. Webb and set up housekeeping on a farm west of Bethel. To this union was born three children, Mildred, who passed away two years ago, Mrs. Vince Holley (sic) (Alice) of Postville and Harley of Eureka, Illinois. In 1903 they moved to the farm home north of Frankville which was the family home for a great many of years.
Mr. Owen was preceded in death by his wife, daughter, three brothers and four sisters.
Survivors are: his daughter, Mrs. Vince Holly (sic); son Harley; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Martha Knuteson of Concord, California and Mrs. Alice E. Wagner of Port Edwards, Wisconsin; and a large number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Owen was a member of the Brotherly Love Lodge No. 204, A.F. and A.M. and was also a member of the Community Presbyterian Church of Postville.
