Services Held For Mildred E. Owen Here Saturday
Mildred L. Owen, daughter of Eugene E. and Melissa Owen, was born May 1, 1902 on a farm northeast of Postville. She passed away Thursday, June 7, 1951 at the Franklin Hospital, Minneapolis, Minnesota where she had been a patient for five weeks.
Mildred Owen was graduated from the Postville high school at the age of 16. She attended the W. B. U. business school at LaCrosse, Wisconsin, after which she found employment with the Conley Camera Company, at Rochester, Minnesota where she worked for three years.
Her next position was with the Soo Line Railroad at Minneapolis, Minnesota in whose employment she served 27 years beginning as an office clerk and rising to the position of private secretary to the president of the traffic department.
Mildred Owen was a member of Minneapolis chapter 9, Order of Eastern Star and the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, Minneapolis.
Surviving are her father, Eugene E., and a sister, Mrs. Vince Holly, both of Postville, and a brother, Harley D., of Eureka, Illinois.
Services were held Saturday, June 9, at 7:30 p.m. at the Werness Funeral Home, Minneapolis, with Rev. Thomas C. Cannon officiating, and at the Schutte Funeral Home Monday, June 11, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. W. T. Martin, officiating. Burial was at Postville cemetery.
Those from a distance who attended the funeral services here were: Mr. and Mrs. John Staadt, Jr. and Lyndal of Ottawa, Kansas, Mr. and Mrs. Gary E. Owen of Vienna, South Dakota, Mrs. George Custer and Kaye of Detroit, Michigan, and Mrs. George M. Franck and LaVon of Oelwein.
