Services Held For Evan J. Owen
Funeral services were conducted Monday, December 9 at 11:00 a.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church, Postville, for Evan J. Owen, who died Saturday, December 7 at his home in Postville. The Rev. Dick F. Harberts officiated.
The son of Vincent P. and Mary Eleanor Roberts Owen, was born November 25, 1920 at Williamsburg, Iowa. He spent his early years in that community receiving his elementary education in the Williamsburg school. He graduated from the Anamosa High School and was a graduate of the Cedar Rapids Business School.
On July 22, 1945 he was united in marriage to Molly Jo Eichhorn at Anamosa. To this union two children were born.
The couple moved to Postville where Mr. Owen became Office Manager of the Allamakee-Clayton Electric Cooperative, Inc. on November 16, 1960. He was named Acting Manager September 1, 1965 and appointed General Manager on January 1, 1966.
Mr. Owen was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II; was a member of the Arthur F. Brandt American Legion Post No. 518; the Postville Kiwanis Club; Anamosa Lodge No. 46 of Anamosa; the El Kahir Shrine of Cedar Rapids and the Northeast Iowa Shrine Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Eric.
Survivors include his wife Molly Jo and his two children, Stevan of Postville and Mrs. Paul (Mary Chris) Abicht of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, and a grandson David Owen.
Military rites were conducted at the cemetery by Arthur F. Brandt Post, American Legion.
Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.
