Orville Fred Nuehring

Funeral services for Orville F. Nuehring were held Monday, October 19, 10:30 a.m., at St. John Lutheran Church, Luana. The Rev. Ted Ager officiated. Schutte Funeral Service, Postville, was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in St. John Cemetery.

Orville Fred Nuehring, son of John W. and Alice (Kruse) Nuehring, was born November 12, 1910 in Franklin Township in Allamakee County. He died Thursday, October 15, 1987 in the Central Community Hospital, Elkader.

On December 7, 1932 he was married to Emily Schultz. The couple had 12 children. He farmed in the Postville and Luana areas for many years and then was employed by Hoffman Construction of Independence. Prior to his retirement he served as custodian at the Mental Health Institute of Independence.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother, John, three brothers in infancy, and three grandchildren, Ricky Pearson, Wayne Dundee and Penny Grace Nuehring.

He is survived by 7 daughters, Melvina Pearson, Mrs. Wayne (Marilyn) Martie, Mrs. Tom (Margaret) Jones, all of Postville, Mrs. Dennis (Marranda) Larson of Atkins, IA, Mrs. Albert (Maryann) Dundee of Luana, Mrs. Richard (Marlene) Yauslin of Elgin, Mrs. Virgil (Marcia) Bruns of Decorah, 5 sons, M. Orville of Monona, Otto of Waukon, Owen of Wells, MN, Oliver of Tacoms, WA and Omar of Postville; 34 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 3 brothers, Daymond of Postville, Frederick of Farmersburg, and Marlyn of Monona and 4 sisters, Frances Fette of Waseca, MN, Leila Fett of Monona, LaVerda Welzel of Eldorado and Lorene Swenson of Garrison, MN.

Casket bearers were Richard Brainard, Curtis Larson, Brian Yauslin, Matthew Colsch, Jason Bruns, Michael Colsch, Kevin Dundee and Larry Martie.
