Sarah "Sadie" Troendle, age 74, died Monday, December 16, 2002, at Pella Regional Health Center. Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 18 at Gullion Cemetery, rural Knoxville, Iowa, with Pastor Leo Freel officiating. Sarah Joy was born April 25, 1928, in Waukon, the daughter of Walter and Marie (Henderson) Joy. She was raised in Waukon and graduated from St. Patrick's High School in 1947. On November 28, 1948, she was united in marriage to Walter Troendle in Seattle, Wash. The couple lived in Seattle for a year and a half before moving to Altoona, where they lived for six years. Walter and Sarah then moved to Waukon, where they lived most of their married life before moving to Knoxville in 1988. Sarah enjoyed spending time reading, sewing, and cooking for her family. In fact, her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. Survivors include her husband, Walter; her children, Dave Troendle of Knoxville, Joy Hol of Pella, and Arlene Ensor and Susan Irving, both of Knoxville; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends. Casket bearers were Ben Ensor, JJ Ensor, Hason Hol, Nick Hol, Dylan Irving, and Scott Troendle.
