Warren Barker, age 88 of Waukon and formerly of Postville, died Thursday, December 19, 2002, at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Monday, December 23 at Schutte Funeral Home in Postville with Pastor Edward Mast officiating. Burial was in Frankville Cemetery, rural Postville. Schutte Funeral Home assisted with arrangements. Warren Herman Barker, son of Herman Charles and America Jane (Smith) Barker, was born March 28, 1914, at Friendship, Wis. He attended the New Albin Country School and the Frankville School. On April 17, 1948, he married Rose Limkemann in the Community Presbyterian Church in Frankville. To this union, eight children were born.
The couple farmed in the Castalia, Ossian, and Postville areas from 1948 to January of 1978. Warren continued to work in farm-related jobs, including installing and repairing farm equipment. He later was employed by 4-County Ag in Postville. They moved to Waukon after Warren retired.
Warren was a former member of the Frankville Presbyterian Church, the Baptist Church in Decorah, and a current member of Calvary Baptist Church in Waukon, where he was active in various capacities. Warren enjoyed fishing and hunting and playing table games with his family. He is survived by his wife, Rose, of Waukon; eight children, Linda (Dave) Murphy of Coon Rapids, Minn., Ray (Sue) Barker of Spring Grove, Minn., Betty (Jim) Howard of Waukon, Karen Tschappat of Leola, S.D., Janet (Mark) Hager of Waukon, Judie (Curt) Hanson of Waukon, Kathy (Jess) Busse of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Grace Barker and fiance John Nanfito of Omaha, Neb.; 20 grandchildren; one great-grandson; one sister, Thelma Barker of Postville; one brother, Verl Barker of Castalia; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, David Tschappat; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Barker, one brother, Lloyd Barker; two sisters, Beulah Barker and Frances Wallace; a brother-in-law, Everett Wallace; and a nephew, Keith Wallace. Honorary casket bearers were Rachel Murphy, Jacob Murphy, Katie Murphy, Carrie and Keith Koetz, Heidi Christiansen, Sheila and Chris Malone, Paul Howard, Luke Howard, Amber Tschappat, David Tschappat, Katie Tschappat, Justin Hager, Tiffany Hanson, Blair Hanson, Micah Busse, and Miranda Busse. Casket bearers were Nathaniel Murphy, Nathan Christiansen, Joe Howard, Matthew Tschappat, Michael Hager, and Brandon Hanson.©Waukon Standard 2002
