Funeral services for Florence A. Miller, 96, were held Saturday, September 28, at 11 a.m. at Schutte Funeral Home in Postville. Pastor Verdon Swenson officiated. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Florence Annetta Miller, daughter of John and Addie (Sawyer) Miller, was born January 5, 1895, in Franklin Township, Allamakee County, near Postville. She died Tuesday, September 24, 1991, at the home of Roger and Donna Miller in Clermont.

She attended the country school in Hardin and graduated from Postville High School in 1915. At the age of 21 she went to Garner, where she was employed in a millinery store. During the Depression, Florence traveled to New York City, where she also worked in millinery for eight years. She was also employed in the Forest City and Mason City areas, as well as owning and operating a children’s clothing store in Fairhope, Alabama, before her retirement. In 1933 she traveled to Europe with her sister.

In 1962 Florence retired and moved to Phoenix, Arizona. She returned to Iowa in 1988 and made her home with Tom and Pat Miller in Cedar Rapids. In February of 1989, she came to Postville where she lived with Roger and Donna Miller. They later moved to Clermont.

Surviving are a brother, Harva Miller and his wife, Veryle of Monona; a sister-in-law, Ruth Miller of Cedar Rapids; and nine nieces and nephews, Fred Miller and Ruth Quandahl, both of Waukon; Marilyn Clark and Kermit Miller, both of Postville; Roger Miller of Clermont; Donna Wiley of Palo, Iowa; Tom Miller of Cedar Rapids; Jean Smith of Monona; and Marvin Miller of McGregor.

She is preceded in death by a sister, Winnie Sawyer; three brothers, Frank, Earl and Ross; and a niece, Helen Wirkler.

Casket bearers were Jim Miller, John Miller, Rick Miller, Tom Miller, Jeff Smith and Allen Quandahl.
