Funeral services for Ole Edward Engrav were conducted last Wednesday, October 10th. Preliminary services were held at the farm home at 1:30 p.m. and followed by services at the Highland Prairie Lutheran Church at 2:00p.m. with the Rev. I.R. Gronlid officiating., Burial was made in the church cemetery. The pallbearers were six of the seven sons, with the seventh son escorting his mother.
Ole Edward Engrav passed away at his home on Highland Prairie on Sunday October 7, 1956 at the age of 84 years, 8 months, and 20 days. He was very active and able to be around until Saturday morning, October 6th.
He was born in Union Prairie Township, Waukon, Iowa on December 20, 1871, the son of Halvor and Asper Engrav. He was baptized at the Old West Paint Creek Church by Rev. Ole Hjort and confirmed at Glenwood Lutheran by Rev. Nels Amlund. He was united in marriage to Caroline Larson on February 23, 1898. To this union fourteen children were born, one of whom died in infancy.
Surviving are his wife and the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Arnold (Irene) Bakkum, Waukon, IA; Henry Engrav, Decorah, IA; Mrs. Carl (Cora) Christensen, Lansing, IA; Mrs. Juel (Edna) Moe, Decorah, IA; Lloyd Engrav, Rushford, MN; Mrs. Melvin (Marie) Helgemoe, Rushford, MN: Mrs. Raymond (Esther) Jahr, Highland Prairie, MN; Halvor Engrav, Waukon, IA; Mrs. Melvin (Emma) Anderson, Waterville, IA; and Forrest Engrav at home.
Also surviving are 36 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; a brother John of Rushford, MN; and a sister Mrs. Gilman (Esther) Hanson of Minot ND.
Three sisters and one brother preceded him in death.
He has been an active and faithful member of Highland Prairie Lutheran Church since he moved here in 1914.
He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends and relatives.
