James M. Reed 1865 - 1943

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Fitschen Funeral Chapel in Lansing for James M. Reed of Iowa township, who passed away Friday morning at the Allamakee General Hospital, Waukon, following a paralytic stroke. The deceased had been sick but a few days, being taken to the hospital Tuesday evening previous.

Mr. Reed was born March 26, 1865 in West Moreland County, Virginia, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Reed, and one of a family of thirteen children. As a small boy he came with the family to Wisconsin, and later Iowa, setteling in the northeast corner of Allamakee. He was educated in the rural schools of the county and followed the occupation of farming until his retirement a few years ago.

He was an honest and industriousman, a fine neighbor, and a friend to all that knew him, and was well known in both Lansing and New Albin. Immediate survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Henry Rippe, Souix Rapids Iowa; Mrs. Alfred Magnusson and Mrs. Edwin Cooper, Lansing , Iowa; two brothers, Richard Reed, St. Cloud, Minn., and Joseph B. Reed, west of Lansing, besides a number of neices and nephew, with whom he was always a favorite.

Deceased was a memberof the Methodist Church, and Reverend John W. Kile officated at the services held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, as well as saying the prayers at the gravside. Internment was at New Albin cemetery adn casket bearers were Robert Reed, Edwin Cooper, Curtis Lenz, Harry Meyer, Emil Raddatz, and John Love. Music for the services was rendered by the New Albin Trio, Mr. Charles J Travis, Mr Edw. Bock, and Mr. James Sires, all of whom were long time friends of the deceased.
