Charles Hurm passed away at his home Wednesday morning at the age of 71 years, 8 months and 23 days. He was born September 2, 1905 in Allamakee Co, Iowa to David and Elizabeth (Kelly) Hurm. He graduated from Immaculate Conception School in Lansing in 1919. He married the former Grace Beffa in Milwaukee on August 17, 1926. He farmed in Battle Hollow until 1935 when he started a tavern business in the DeSoto House. He later operated the Colonial Gardens. In 1939, he built the Bright Spot and sold it in 1945 when he moved to Arizona. He later built Charlie and Grace's and operated it until 1968 when he moved to his farm in Battle Hollow.
He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Anita Stouvenel of DeSoto; three sisters, Mrs. Florence Garner of Kentucky, Mrs. Cornelia Riser of Lansing, and Mrs. Cathryn McCabe of Chicago; one brother Joseph of Portland, Oregon; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
