Eaton......
At his home in Franklin township, Allamakee County, Monday, July 13, 1896, Asael Eaton, at the ripe old age of 83 years, 5 months, and 6 days. Deceased was born in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia, Feb 7, 1813. Some time about 1847 he came to the United States, settling in DeKalb County, Illinois. Later he moved to Wisconsin and in 1856 came to this county, where the remainder of his years were spent. His wife, Amanda, died ten years ago the 14th of March. To them nine children had been born, five sons and four daughters. Of these, four sons and one daughter remain to hallow the memory of a devoted father. "Uncle Asael" Eaton, as he was familiarly known in this region, became a Christian early in life, and on coming to this country he cast his lot in with the United Brethren Church, in which he remained a faithful member until the time of his death. A good man, one of our early settlers, has gone to his reward. The funeral services, conducted by the pastor, Rev. E. Harper at Bethel Church yesterday forenoon, were largely attended by sympathizing friends of the bereaved family, and the remains were laid to rest in the Minert Cemetery by the side of his wife, there to await the general resurrection of the just.
