Herbert Hanson Dies This Morn

Fails to Rally From Head Operation Performed At Rochester Last Week

Herbert Hanson, former deputy county auditor and a lifelong resident of Lansing, passed away at St. Mary's hospital, Rochester, shortly before noon this morning, Following an operation upon his head last week.

For about two months he had been suffering with what at first was thought to be sleeping sickness, but after several weeks in a La Crosse hospital he was brought back home. Last week he was taken to Rochester, where an operation proved that nothing could be done to restore him to health, and he died today.

He was born in Lansing 31 years ago, and even while he was deputy auditor, retained his residence in Lansing. He was well known as the drum major of the Waukon Drum and Bugle Corps which won high honors at Des Moines in state competiion and at Chicago two consecutive years where the corps competed against some of the finest in the midwest. For a number of years he was shipping clerk at the Lansing Button Factory.

A graduate of Lansing High School, Herbert served as president of the alumni association several years ago. An active member of the Masonic Fraternity, at the time of his death he was secretary of the Upper Iowa Masonic Fellowship Association.

He is survived by his father, Peter Hanson, a brother Ralph, a senior in Lansing High School.

At presstime this evening funeral arangements had not been completed.
