George Oldag, 82, Passed Away Tuesday Morning

George Oldag, 82, a resident of Postville since 1913, passed on early Tuesday morning at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John A. Schroeder. Mr. Oldag had been in ill health for the last four and a half years. At that time he suffered a stroke and had lived with the Schroeders until he passed away Tuesday.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday by the Rev. F.R. Ludwig. Early service will be held at the home at 1:30 p.m., with service in the church at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in Postville cemetery.

George Oldag was born in Mecklenburg, Schwerin, Germany, April 12, 1854, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Oldag. He received an education in the schools of that city, and when he reached the age of 18 years, he decided to come to America. Mr. Oldag made the long voyage alone, first locating in Chicago, Ill. A short time later he came to Iowa where he was married to Miss Augusta Foels. The ceremony was performed March 15, 1879, in the Lutheran church at Clayton Center. Their union was broken after more than 55 years of married life when Mrs. Oldag passed away October 13, 1933.

They were the parents of seven children, all of whom survive. They are Henry Oldag, living southeast of Postville; Emma (Mrs. Will Willman); Edwin J. Oldag, and Amanda (Mrs. John A. Schroeder), all of Postville; Malinda (Mrs. Arthur Schultz), living north of Postville; Otto Oldag, living on the home farm southeast of Postville; and Lenora (Mrs. John Shipton) of Clermont. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Oldag was a successful farmer before retiring in 1913 and moving to town. He lived on several farms in the Postville vicinity and spent many years on the farm located about three miles southeast of town which his son, Otto, purchased several years ago.
