Mrs. Johnson's Funeral Sunday 1876-1957
Funeral services for Mrs. Jehiel Johnson, life-long residence of Waukon, were held at 2:30 Sunday, June 2 from First Presbyterian church. The pastor, the Rev. Mr. William Tjaden officiated, and burial was in Oakland cemetery. The Martin funeral service was in charge, and the body laid in state at the church from 1 p.m. Sunday.
Pallbearers were Martin Martinson, William Bieber, Nathan Hale, Tom Webster, Ed Rueggenmeier, Fred Intlekofer and Harvey Stock.
Margaret De Lilah McGoon, daughter of Joseph and Catherine Fitzgerald McGoon, was born in Linton township, March 2, 1876, and had made her home in Waukon after she was seven years old. She and Jehiel Johnson were married April 11, 1901, and lived on a farm until 1919 when they moved to Waukon. Mr. Johnson preceded his wife in death. They have one son, Elmer, Waukon, and there are two grandchildren. One brother remains. He is Harry McGoon of St. Paul.
Mrs. Johnson, who had led a very active life, was graduated from Waukon schools in 1895. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church here.
Mrs. Johnson had been a patient at the local hospital from last Sunday until the time of her death Thursday evening. Death was unexepected.
