Harvey J. "Chip" Jarms

Graveside services for Harvey J. "Chip" Jarms were held Monday, June 21, 2004, at 11:00 at the Postville Cemetery. Greg Hamm, Family Minister at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville presided. Special music was provided by Daphne Zupke, Chip's niece. Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.

Harvey J. "Chip" Jarms was born February 3, 1951, to Harvey Arno Jarms and Vera E. (nee Williams) Jarms, at West Union, Iowa. He passed away February 11, 2004, at his home in Mesa, Arizona. He had reached the age of 53 years and 8 days.
Chip was baptized April 29, 1951 by the Reverend Frederick R. Ludwig in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, Iowa. His sponsors were his brothers, Ronald and Richard. He was also confirmed there on April 11, 1965 by the Reverend Charles E. Witt.

He attended school at Postville and graduated in 1969. Chip continued his education and graduated from the University of Iowa. He was married to Sandra Friederich.

Making use of his culinary talents, Chip worked in various restaurants in Iowa City. He was involved with his brother, Dick, in Real Estate in Yakima, Washington and also co-owned a check cashing establishment in Arizona with Dick.

Chip had been active in the Boy Scout program as a youth, where he learned to enjoy camping with his fellow scouts. He maintained this interest in camping throughout his adult life and often spent time in the Grand Canyon area.

He also had a passion for history, which led him to the Navajo National Monument and Reservation, teaching, helping, and learning of their customs.
Chip liked to play chess with his brothers and nephews. One of his favorite memories was the time when he won a game of chess over his big brother, Ron.

Chip was a loving son, brother and uncle. He was generous, kind, and touched many lives in many ways. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Surviving is his mother, Vera Jarms Wirkler of Postville, two brothers, Ronald (Tracy) Jarms, Cheney, Washington, and Richard (Louise) Jarms, Yakima, Washington, a sister, Sandra (Robert) Deering, Postville, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Harvey A. Jarms, his step father, Page Wirkler, grandparents, Henry and Hattie Jarms and Guy and Melvina Williams, two nieces, Hope and Holly Deering, and a nephew, Michael Jarms.
