Mary Bernadette Houlihan
Mary Bernadette "Bernie" Houlihan, 88, died Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral Mass was held Saturday, January 15, 2005, at St. Ann's-St. Joseph's Church, Harpers Ferry, Iowa.
Burial was at St. Joseph's Cemetery following the Mass.Bernie was born March 7, 1916, in Emmetsburg, Iowa, to George and Mary (Joyce) Aylward. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Emmetsburg.
Bernie married James A. Houlihan September 8, 1942, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Harpers Ferry.This fine Irish lady enjoyed visits with her family and was fortunate to have many good friends and neighbors.
Bernie is survived by her husband Jim; six children, Kathleen "Kay" at the Mosaic Home in Waukon, Pat (Kathy) of La Crosse, Wis., Dennis of Dubuque, Thomas of La Crosse, Brian (Michele) of Lansing, and James T. of Harpers Ferry; 12 grandchildren, Katie, Sean, Erin, Colin, and Tara Houlihan, Brendan and John Houlihan, Kevin and Ellen Houlihan, Michael and Briana Houlihan, and PV2 Ross Kolsrud; and two great-grandchildren, Connor and Dylan Houlihan of Carmel Valley, Calif.
Bernie is also survived by four siblings: Loretta (Doc) Carollo of Brookfield, Wis., Mary Evelyn (Joe) Brannan of Wauwatosa, Wis., Pat Aylward of Minneapolis, Minn., and Sister Catherine Aylward of St. Paul, Minn.
Bernie was preceded in death by an infant son John, her parents, and a brother Joseph Aylward, who was killed in World War II.
