Mrs. Thornton Is Interred Friday

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at St. Paul's Lutheran church for Mrs. Martha Thornton, 74, who passed away October 4 at her home. The services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. at the Schutte Funeral Home and at 2:00 p.m. at the church with Rev. A. O. Nessit conducting the rites. Burial was in Smithfield cemetery.

Martha Alice Entwisle Thornton, daughter of William Entwisle and Martha Hancock Entwisle was born June 7, 1875 in Franklin township, Allamakee county and departed this life in Postville on October 4, 1949 after a lingering illness at the age of 74 years.

Mrs. Thornton was baptized at the Baptist Church at Rossville.

Mrs. Thornton was united in marriage with Clarence Thornton on December 27, 1803. To this union ten children were born, seven of whom survive the passing of their mother.

Mr. and Mrs. Thornton have been farming until about five years ago. They have spent their entire lifetime in the Postville community.

Left to mourn her passing are her husband; three daughters: Ruth, Mrs. Harry Hinman of Monona; Daisy, Mrs. Lynn Livingood of Luana; Francis, Mrs. Harlan Harnack of Castalia; four sons: Ross and Lloyd of Postville, Henry of Luana, Vern of Postville; four sisters: Mrs. Mary Stafford of California, Mrs. Sara Mason of Waukon, Mrs. Lydia Ridgeway of Fredericksburg, Mrs. Inez Pierce of Alphia; 29 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Thornton was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; two sisters and three of her children, George, William and Margaret.
