Edward Eugene Herbert, 70, of Huntsville, Alabama passed away Wednesday. Edward was the son of Edward & Genevieve (Mahr) Herbert. Survivors include his wife, Janet Herbert; daughter, Linda Christian and husband Michael of Big Cove; sons, Brian Herbert and wife Sharon of Birmingham, and Barry Herbert and wife Kim of Huntsville; sister, Karen Huguley and husband Warren of Port Townsend, Wash.; brothers, Tom Herbert and wife Barbara of Moline, Ill., and Richard Herbert and wife Jean of New Windsor, Ill.; and nine grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A private family service will be held Saturday with Pastor Keith Cook officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Huntsville Public Library or the Huntsville Land Trust.

"Gene" was the son of Edward & Genevieve (Mahr) Herbert. Genevieve (Mahr) Herbert was the daughter of Walter & Mary (Schwartzhoff) Mahr who were also the parents of Wally Mahr (Wally is my wife Marge's first cousin) who lives in Dorchester next to St. Mary's Catholic cemetery. Mary (Schwartzhoff) Mahr was the daughter of William & Sophia (Schulte) Schwartzhoff who were also my wife's grandparents.
