The late William Beardmore, Sr., was born at Tean near Cheadle, Staffordshire, England, October 26, 1823.

At St. Martin's church, Warwickshire, England, on October 31, 1847, he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Faulkner, who preceded him in death twenty years ago.

They came to America in 1853 and for a number of years made their home at Wheeling, West Virginia, later moving westward, settling in Union City and soon purchased the farm where he resided until he retired from active life.

Ten children were born to this union, five of whom have been called in death. Those who survive are: William, Jr., Alfred E., Linn and James Harvey of this county, and John F. of Charles City, Iowa.

Funeral services were held from Mt. Hope Presbyterian church, Tuesday, January 30th, the Rev. H.L. Smith, the local pastor, officiating.

The body was laid to rest in the cemetery near which many years of his most useful and busy life was spent.

AGED MAN PASSES AWAY

William Beardmore, Sr., was born at Tean near Cheadle, Staffordshire, England, October 26th, 1823. He was the youngest of a family of five children, consisting of two brothers and three sisters. He was deprived of a mother's tender care at the age of eight months.

When a boy of eight years he became an apprentice to an uncle to learn the blacksmith trade in which he became very proficient and was a genius in that line, which he later carried on in connection with his farm interests.

At St. Martin's church, Staffordshire, England, on October 31, 1848, he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Faulkner, who preceded him in death twentyone years ago, after which loss he soon retired from active labor.

On Feb. 1st, 1853, he set sail for America to establish a home in a new country. In the fall of the same year his wife with three small children left her native land to join the husband and father. For a number of years they made their home at Wheeling, West Virginia, later moving westward settling in Union City township, soon purchasing the farm where he resided until he retired from active life. Ten children were born to this union, five of whom have been called in death. Those who survive are: William, Alfred E., Lynn and James Harvey of this county, and John F. of Charles City, Iowa.

The infirmities of old age coming on, the deceased decided to make his home among his children. In July 1914, he went to the home of his eldest son, Wm., where he remained one year and eight months and where nothing was left undone to make his declining years comfortable and happy.

The last year of his life was passed at the home of his son, Alfred, where also tender care was freely given. Sunday evening, January 28, 1917, at the age of ninety-three years, three months and two days, his tired spirit took its flight leaving a large circle of relatives and friends to honor and revere his memory.

Funeral Services were held from Mt. Hope Presbyterian church, Tuesday, Jan. 30th, at 2 p.m., Rev. H. L. Smith, the local pastor, preaching a most comforting and consoling sermon. Six grandchildren of the deceased, Thomas, Eben, Earl, Arthur, John and Charles Beardmore acted as pall bearers. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. The body was laid to rest in Mt. Hope Cemetery near which many years of his most useful and busy life was spent.
