Ruth Hawes, age 92, formerly of Harpers Ferry and Waterloo, died of natural causes on Wednesday, October 23, 2002, at Thornton Manor Care Center, Lansing. Ruth C. Hawes was born on May 7, 1910, in Glandorf, Ohio, to Frank and Caroline (Meyers) Farley. She married Urban V. Hawes on June 16, 1931, in Harpers Ferry, where they lived until his death on July 29, 1988. Survivors include two daughters, Laurayne Schulte of Evansdale and Ruth Ann Cordova of Waterloo; one son, Daniel (Kathy) Hawes of Prairie du Chien; seven grandchildren, Larry (Sheryl) Schulte, Jack (Jan) Schulte, Linda (Kevin) Lay, Dave (Resa) Hawes, Terry and Shawn Hawes, and Lisa (Jim) Heiser; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one sister, Mary Goodrich of Rockford, Ill.; two sisters-in-law, Anna Farley of Lansing and Allie Farley of Rockford, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews who lovingly called her "Aunt Toot". She was preceded in death by four brothers, Dorse, Chet, Phillip, and Bill Farley, and four sisters, Lenore Stuber, Dorothy Lynch, Clellah Featherston, and Heather O'Brien. Funeral services were held October 26, 2002, at St. Anne's-St. Joe's Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry, with burial in the church cemetery at Paint Rock. Pallbearers were Ruth's seven grandchildren. Hanson's Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements.
