J. W. Harris Passes On After Lingering Illness

J. W. Harris. 79 years old, Post township farmer for the past 56 years, passed away Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lester Smith, where he had been making his home, following a lingering illness. Funeral at Schutte's funeral rooms at 2:15 and at the Community Presbyterian church at 2:30, the Rev. J. Ian Fraser being in charge, and interment was made in Postville cemetery.
Mr. Harris was born near Caldwell, Ohio, March 24, 1860, the son of McGary and Rosanne Harris, and spent his early years in that vicinity. At the age of 16 years he joined the United Brethren church of Caldwell, and when 23 years of age, he came to Iowa, taking up his residence in Post township,where he has since lived.
Mr. Harris was married to Caroline Segrist on February 17, 1887, and to this union three sons and six daughters were born, all of whom survive. Mrs. Harris passed away in January, 1938, and two brothers, Cornelius and Floyd, also preceded him.
The surviving children are Martin Harris, Castalia, Obert and Fred Harris,Postville, Mrs May Evans, Mrs. Ella Lawson and Mrs. Dora Smith, Postville, Mrs. Ethel Fast, Zanesville, Ohio, Mrs. Florence Barnes, Clermont, and Mrs. Lucile Johnson, Canton, Minnesota. Also surviving are three brothers, S. A. Harris, Postville, Elisha Harris, Zanesville, Ohio, and Dallas Harris, Caldwell, Ohio; two sisters, Celia Radcliffe, South Olive, Ohio, and Ollie Lukenbill of
Zanesville, Ohio, and numerous other relatives.
James William Harris died 31 May 1939.
