James Crowley passed away Saturday evening, November 30, 1946, at the Iowa State Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa, following an illness of a year and a half.
Mr. Crowley, a son of Humphrey and Mary Crowley, was born January 12, 1868, in Houston County, Minnesota. In the year 1880 he, with his parents, moved to New Albin, Iowa, since his home. He received his education in the grade schools.
On September 6, 1894, he was united in marriage to Miss Bridget Thornton at La Crosse, Wisconsin.
During his residence here he was engaged as a laborer.
He is survived by five children, namely, Leo of New Albin; Joe of Lansing, Iowa; Leonard of Waterloo, Iowa; Mrs. Arnold (Zeta) Anderson of Sauk City, Wisconsin; and Mrs. Al (Helen) Mehlhorn of Hanover, Illinois; one sister, Mrs. Nellie Tillitson of La Crosse, Wisconsin; and one brother, Joseph Crowley of La Crosse, Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1934, three children; and brothers.
Funeral services were held from the home of his son, Leo, to St. Joseph's Church at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning, with the Rev. R.L. Hayes, pastor, celebrating Requiem Mass and officiating at the graveside. Burial was made in St. Joseph's Cemetery west of town. Casket bearers were Miles Tippery, Leon May, Peter Hosch, John Higgins, I. Imhoff and Gilman Beeler.
Relatives from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Crowley, Mr. and Mrs. George Cerney and Mrs. Florence Lenz and sons Joe, Edward and Francis of La Crosse, Wisconsin; Mr. and Mrs. Al Mehlhorn of Hanover, Illinois; Mrs. Arnold Anderson of Sauk City, Wisconsin; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Crowley of Lansing; and Leonard Crowley of Waterloo, Iowa.
