The death of Walter J. Welper, 79, Waukon, occurred at his home on Monday. Last rites will be held on Thursday morning at 1:00 a.m. from St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Internet in Mt. Olivet cemetery.

Walter Welper was born in Union City township on February 17, 1893, to Bernard (Bernhard) and Fredericka (Holt) Welper. He was married on April 30, 1924, to Blanche Collins.

Surviving is his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Ralph (Shirley) Ryan of Dallas Center, Iowa; three sons, Harold and Merle Welper of Dorchester; and Don of Lansing; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters, Mrs. Martha Renk and Mrs. Ida King of Waukon; And Mrs. Freda Wiemerslage of New Albin.

Bakke and Hanson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
