Robert E. Goeke

Funeral services were conducted Friday, March 17 at 10:00 a.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church, Postville, for Robert E. Goeke, who died suddenly in his rural Postville home Sunday evening, March 12. The Rev. Dick Harberts officiated.

The son of Otto and Amelia Adam Goeke, Robert was born April 20, 1914, in Allamakee County. He received his education in the Ludlow No. 7 school. He farmed with his father until his father's death. He was employed by Edward Handke and then in the last years by Gordon Lawson Equipment Co. He retired in 1976.

Robert was baptized in the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church May 31, 1914 and was confirmed April 1, 1928.

He was married to Evelyn Meyer in 1939. To this union four sons and three daughters were born: Richard, Harold, Alice, Joyce, Dale, Lee and a daughter who died in infancy.

In 1950 he married Fronzie McNally and two sons were born to this union, Roger and James.

Married to Beulah McNally in 1962, they became parents of Dean, Don, Everett, Dorothy, Sandra and Bruce.

He also had a step-son, George Willis, Jr.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a daughter in infancy and a grandson, Clint Osterhus.

Surviving are his wife, Beulah and his children: Richard of Masonville, Iowa, Harold of Cedar Rapids; Alice (Mrs. Ronald Osterhus), Clermont; Mrs. Lester (Joyce) Spilde, Decorah; Dale of Iowa City; Lee of Lansing; Roger and James of Waukon; stepson, George Willis, Jr. in the U.S. Air Force in Texas; Dean of Monona; Everett in U. S. Army, Korea; Dorothy, Sandy, Bruce and Don at home. There are two sisters: Mrs. Edwin [Ida] Klepper of Frankville and Mrs. Elmer [Inez] Klepper of Decorah; also 13 grandchildren and other relatives.

Interment was in the Frankville Cemetery.

Postville Herald newspaper clipping, hand dated 1978, from my mother's obituary collection. Submitter has no further information.
