The funeral of Mrs. Fred Bechtel 86 of Waukon was held from Martin Bros. funeral parlors Wednesday afternoon to the Salem Reformed Church in Ludlow township, were services were conducted by the Rev. Walter Clausing. Burial was made in the nearby cemetery.
Mrs. Bechtel died Sunday night Sept. 13 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Waterman in west Waukon where she had been cared for the past six weeks.
As Amelia Grotegut she was born May 21 1867 in Waukesha, Wis. a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Simon Grotegut. With her parents she came to Allamakee County and settled on a farm near Frankville. On March 2 1892 she was married to Fred Bechtel. The past eight years they made their home with another daughter Mrs. John Osterholtz, west of Waukon, Mr. Bechtel died Jan. 11 1953.
Besides the two daughters named above, there are three other daughters, namely Mrs. Alvin Brandt of Waukon, Mrs. Elmer Snitker of Ludlow, Mrs. Art Hesse of Postville, and two sons Ben and Art Bechtel both of Waukon, 34 grandchildren and 58 great grandchildren.Allamakee Journal & Lansing Mirror
