The funeral services for Fred Bechtel 85 of Waukon, a pioneer settler of Allamakee County were held Tuesday afternoon from Martin Bros. furneral parlors to the Salem Reformed Church in Ludlow township and were conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Walter Clausing. Burial was made in the nearby cemetery.
Mr. Bechtel died Sunday Jan. 11 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Henry Waterman in Waukon, where he had been cared for the past 10 days. He had suffered a fractured hip several weeks ago. He was born on a farm northeast of Waukon on Nov. 14 1867, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Bechtel.
On March 2 1892 he was married to Amelia Grotegut of Ludlow and they resided in that township until they retired and moved to Waukon where they lived three years. The past 10 years Mr. and Mrs. Bechtel had made their home with their daughter Mrs. John Osterholtz, residing on No. 9 west of Waukon.
Deceased is survived by his wife and five daughters and two sons, namely Mrs. John Osterholtz, Mrs. Elmer Snitker, and Mrs. Art Hesse all residing west of Waukon, Mrs. Henry Waterman and Mrs. Alvin Brandt, both of Waukon. Art Bechtel of Ludlow and Ben of Waukon. An only brother Will lives east of Waukon. There are 34 grandchildren and 58 great grandchildren.
