Alfred H. Winter
Funeral services for Alfred H. Winter were held Thursday, Dec. 18 at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Postville. The Rev. Paul Otting officiated. Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in St. Peter's Cemetery, Clermont.
Alfred Henry Winter, son of Frank and Mary (Schoenborn) Winter, was born March 5, 1901 at Spring Hill, Minnesota. He died Monday, Dec. 15, 1986 in the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien, WI.
He attended the rural schools near his home. He was employed by a road construction company in Minnesota. He came to Postville with a construction company that built the first REC line in the Postville area in 1939 (Allamakee-Clayton Electric Cooperative). He applied for a job with REC and was employed there as a line foreman until his retirement in 1966.
On July 21, 1925 he married Olivia C. Roelike at Spring Hill, Minnesota. They had 8 children. Olivia died July 23, 1967.
He married Ivanelle (Taylor) Monroe on June 1, 1969 at Ridgeway, WI. They have lived in Prairie du Chien since that time.
He is preceded in death by his wife Olivia, 2 brothers, Lawrence and Edward, 2 sisters, Theckla (sic) Jonas and Erne? [paper was tore here and can't make out] Kunstleben and a granddaughter, Theresa Marie Smith.
Surviving is his wife, Ivanelle, 3 sons, Eldred, Placerville, CA; Marvin, Postville and Eugene, Cedar Rapids; 5 daughters, Doris (Mrs. J. L. Williams), Brighton, CO; Eileen Smith, Chandler, AZ; Ione (Mrs. Louis Burnett), St. Louis, Mo; Gloria (Mrs. Larry Mason), Mason City, Iowa and Carol (Mrs. Allen Stahr), West Union; 1 step-daughter, Anna Mae (Mrs. Cletus Steffensmeier), Bloomington, WI and 1 stepson, Lyle Wilkinson, Prairie du Chien, WI; 21 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 1 step-great grandchild, 4 brothers, Henry and Ervin, Paynesville, MN; Arthur, Melrose, MN and Richard of Sauk Center, MN and 4 sisters, Otillia Jonas, Melrose, MN; Leona (Mrs. Joe Meemken)), Bemidji, MN and Sara Fuchs and Johanna (Mrs. Edmund Schefers), both of Lake Henry, MN.
Casket bearers: Hiram Halverson, Duane Thompson, John Burri, Robert Dull, Upton Peck, [paper tore here] LaVern Noethe.
