Gordon "Gordy" James Engen, 80, of Waukon passed away Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral Services are being held Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m. at Hanson Funeral Home in Waukon, with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Interment will be at a later date. Visitation is being held Tuesday, Feb. 13 from 6-8 p.m. at Hanson Funeral Home.
Gordy was born November 11, 1926 in Waukon to Selmer and Juliet (Ehrie) Engen. He completed eighth grade at Hanson Country School and was a member of Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church.
He worked as a farmer, used machinery dealer, trucker, and heavy machinery operator, and was a quarry specialist and a welder. He was very inventive and enjoyed problem solving on the job. He had a great love of the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He was an avid pool player. He enjoyed going to auctions and had a special interest and knowledge of antiques.
He will be remembered for his ability to talk with anyone and really take an interest and care about them. In his retirement years, he especially enjoyed coffee and visiting with friends.
Gordy is survived by his children, Larry (Jill) Engen of Prairie du Chien, WI; Doreen (Duane) Southwick of Elkader; Kenneth (Sandy) Engen of Monona; and James (Lori) Engen of McGregor; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Loretta Sorum of Decorah; nieces and nephews and their families; several cousins; and special friends Revelyn Lonning and Dominick Damiano of Waukon. He was preceded in death by his parents.
