Kermit Kruger, age 77, of Calmar died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007, at his home, following a sudden illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14 at the Calmar Lutheran Church in Calmar, with Rev. Norman Bauer officiating. Burial will be in the Zalmona Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Waukon.
Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Schluter - Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel in Calmar, and after 10 a.m. at the church Wednesday morning.
Kermit Grant Kruger was born June 7, 1929, the son of Arthur and Esther (Winkie) Kruger in Waukon. Kermit attended school in Waukon. He served in Korea from 1952-53.
He was married to Sally Alexander in 1952 in California, and they later divorced. From 1954-55, Kermit worked at Earl Sunderman's Full Service Station inWaukon. From 1956-61, Kermit worked at the State of Iowa Maintenance Garage in Waukon. From 1961-85, he drove semi for Frana Beer in Calmar.
Kermit married Viola Schmidt December 7, 1966 in New Hampton. Kermit loved horses and animals.
Kermit's survivors include his wife, Viola Kruger of Calmar; one son, Ron Kruger of West Union; one daughter, Julie Rundle of Rohnert Park, CA; two sisters, Janice McNitt of Lake Zurich, IL and Ruth Hanson of Waukon; one brother, Merlin (Virginia) Kruger of Harpers Ferry; and his former wife, Sally Alexander of Corte Madera, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister in infancy.
