Funeral for Crash Victims in Mt. Pleasant
Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Walker and her daughter Sarah who were killed Thursday evening, July 6 in a car-train accident near Lockridge, were held Monday, July 10 from St. Alphonse Catholic church in Mt. Pleasant.
The Rev. Paul Albers officiated and interment was in Forest Home cemetery. Mrs. Walker, 47, and Sarah, 18, lived in Mt. Pleasant where Mrs. Walker was county public health nurse. Born May 14, 1925 in Waukon she was a daughter of John and Jennie DeWitt Donahue. September 26, 1951 she married Lawrence Walker.
Before becoming public health nurse she was a staff nurse and nursing supervisor at the Mental Health institute in Mt. Pleasant and a surgical nurse at Henry County Memorial Hospital.
She was a member of the Henry County Nurses association and Iowa Nursing association. She was president of the state association's second district, and a former vice president and member of the board of directors. She was also chairman of the southeast Iowa Head start policy council.
Surviving are her husband, two sons, Larry of Burlington and Kelly at home, her mother Mrs. Jennie Donahue of Burlington, two brothers, John Donahue of Cedar Rapids and James Donahue of Fresno, Calif., four sisters, Mrs. Mary Ziegelmeyer, Burlington, Mrs. Patricia Kaminski, Milwaukee, Wis., Mrs. Jane Healy, Phoenix, Ariz. and Rae Gabeline of Detroit, Mich., and two granchildren. She was preceded in death by her father and a brother David Donahue.
Sarah Jane was born July 5, 1954 in Mt. Pleasant. She was a 1972 graduate of Mt. Pleasant high school where she was a member of pep club, GRA and mixed chorus.
