Howard E. Hitner, 67, of Waukon, died Monday, Nov. 16, 1998, at Veterans Hospital in Iowa City.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18 at Hanson Funeral Home in Waukon with the Rev. Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial was in Rossville Cemetery.
He was born Jan. 30, 1931 in Ada, MN to John and Susie (Keppler) Hitner. Howard received his education in Minnesota schools. During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army. Howard was a member of the American Legion.
Howard was a mechanic and school bus driver.
Nov. 25, 1960 he married Beverly Huckstad in Waukon.
Survivors include his wife; three children, John, LaSandra Howes and Cindy Johll, all of Waukon; two grandchildren; three sisters, Rose Geller, Della Kroshus and Marcella Lushen; and two brothers, Joe and Bill Hitner.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Edith Bitker; and five brothers, Emil, Robert, Louis, Melvin and Paul.
Casket bearers were Legion members, Orville Bratrud, William Byrnes, Rupert Caballero, John Regan, and Otto and Virgil Thorstenson.
