A LOCAL PIONEER,CHRISTOPH SANDER,HAS PASSED ON

DECEASED HAD BEEN LIVING IN POST TOWNSHIP FOR OVER SIXTY YEARS

Mr. Christoph Sander was born in Bienebuettel, in Hanover Province,Germany,January 16,1849, and passed away at his home in Postville, Iowa Saturday July 5,1930 at 12 o`clock noon, at the ripe old age of 81 years,five months and 19 days. In the month of March this year he suffered a paralytic stroke from which he never recovered, and slowly his condition grew worse. The last few weeks of his life required constant watching and tender care on the part of his loving wife and children.

According to the usage of the Evangelical Lutheran Church he was baptized in the early infancy,January 19,1849. at the age of 4 he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in the church of his home town and thus became a communicant member of the same.

At the age of 18 years he emigrated to the United States,landing in New York, May 1,1867. He first located in Wisconsin,where he resided for three years,and then moved to a farm in Allamakee County,Iowa near Postville, where he lived until his retirement ten years ago,when he located in Postville.

On April 16,1875 he was married to Miss Caroline Schultz,who after fifty-five years of wedlock survives him. To this union were born eleven children,one of whom, Mrs. Ida Schuette,at the age of forty-seven years preceded the father in death. The ten surviving children are George,Mrs. Emma Diedrich,Otto,Carl,Conrad,Walter,Mrs. Albert Foels,Mrs. L.H. Meyer,Eldo and Mrs. Walter Muchow of Chicago.He also leaves twenty one grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Christ,as he was familiarly known,was genial,jovial gentleman,who drew about him many friends.He was honorable and straightforward in all his dealings, and fullfilled well his various obligations as husband,father and citizen,and all who came within the circle of his acquaintance will sincerely regret his passing and sympathize in full measure with bound to him by a closer tie.

The funeral was held from St. Paul`s Lutheran church in this city at two o`clock on Tuesday afternoon,Rev. Garten conducting the service, and a large concourse of sympathizing friends were present to pay r their last tribute of respect to the memory of this genial gentleman. The floral offering were profuse and beautiful. Interment was made in the Postville
