From the November 1985 Postville Herald:Funeral services for Harold Schroeder were held Monday, Nov. 25, 1985 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran church, Postville. Rev. Julius L. Peterson officiated. Schutte funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Postville cemetery.
Harold Wilhelm Henry Schroeder, son of Carl H. and Bertha (Meyer) Schroeder was born Dec. 19, 1907 near Frankville, Iowa. He died Nov. 21 at Community Memorial Hospital in Postville.
He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran church and was an active member of this church during his entire life. He served on the Church Council and many committees and was a Sunday School teacher for a number of years.
He was a member of the graduating class of Postville High School in 1926 and later attended Iowa State University for one year.
On Sept. 6, 1933 he was married to Zaida Whitley at Fayette. They became the parents of two children.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Vernon, of Bradenton, FL.
Harold is survived by his wife, Zaida, a son, the Rev. Charles Schroeder and his wife Patricia, Indianapolis, IN; a daughter, Janice and her husband Leonard Rempert, St. Charles, IL, seven grandchildren; two brothers, Arbie, Elgin and Paul, Cross Lake, MN; and a sister, Ora Windhurst of Postville and many nieces and nephews.
With the exception of four years during which time he served as Deputy Clerk of Court at Waukon, thei4r entire married life was spent in Postville as owner of Harold's Cash Grocery from 1938 to 1963 and from 1963 to 1973 as co-owner with LaVern Stumme of the S&S IGA. Harold retired in 1973.
He was an active member of the business community for over 40 years and at the time of his death, was a member of the County Board of Adjustments and Review, the Lions Club, and Postville Community Housing.
