New Ulm, MN - H. Lois Suckow, 81, of 1427 Heinen Hill, New Ulm, MN died Saturday, June 10, 2006 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm. Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 14 at Oakwood United Methodist Church in New Ulm with Rev. Steven Koehne officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme, IA. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, and 7:00 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Schmucker Funeral Service in New Ulm, and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Harriet Lois Suckow, the daughter of Edgar and Zelma (Smith) Metcalf was born June 24, 1924 in Sioux City, IA. After graduating from Moville High School in Moville, IA, Lois received her nurses training at the Methodist Hospital nurses program in Sioux City. After graduating, Lois served in the Navy Nurses Corp during World War II. After the war, she returned to work at Methodist Hospital.

She was united in marriage to Dale Suckow September 4, 1946 in Moville. They made their home in various Iowa communities before moving to New Ulm in 1977. Lois was a member of Oakwood United Methodist Church in New Ulm, serving in various capacities and on several committees and boards. She was an avid volunteer for many functions, including making many school uniforms for children in foreign countries.

Survivors include her husband, Dale of New Ulm; son, James and his wife Rebecca of Hampton, IA; grandchildren, Amy Suckow of Bloomington, MN and Andrew Suckow of Ames, IA; brother, Rex Metcalf of Hastings; brother-in-law, Luther Suckow and his wife Mavis of Norwalk, IA; sisters-in-law, Irene Suckow of Postville, IA, Lola Suckow of Van Meter, IA; nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her daughter, Joyce Suckow January 15, 2006; brother, Elwin Metcalf and sister, Norma Mullins.
