OBITUARY

CONDUCT RITES FOR

MINNIE HANGARTNER

Funeral services were conducted at the Schutte Funeral Home,Monday, April 21,at 1:30 p.m. for Minnie Hangartner who died April 18,at her home. The Rev. Norman Ullestad officiated.Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Wilmina(Minnie)Heckman(n) was born October 12,1876 in Westfalen,Germany and was the daughter of Wilhelm and Wilhelmina Heckman(n).She came to America with her parents when she was six years old on the first steamer to cross the Atlantic Ocean.She learned the song "America" in her German language and when their ship landed in America,the American Band greeted them and she sang the song with them.

She was baptized Lutheran in Germany and was confirmed in St. Paul Lutheran Church,Postville on March 22,1891 by Pastor John Gass.

Her father helped with the building of the new church in 1890.She was active in the church and sang in the Choir for many years.

On November 26,1895 she was united in marriage to Jacob Hangartner at St. Paul`s in Postville,and to this union nine children were born. The couple farmed near Rockwell,Iowa and then returned to Postville Junction in Fayette County where they resided permanently.

Preceding her in death were her parents;her husband in 1921,three sons,Cleon,Alpha,and Oscar:one daughter,Mrs Lawrence(Bessie)Bray,three grandchildren; two great grandchildren;four brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include two sons,Jacob of Onalaska,Wisconsin and Richard of Postville;three daughters,Gladys Lubke of Onalaska,Wisconsin;Elizbeth Westcott,Postville and Mrs. Harris(Isabel)Kjosa,Clermont; 15 grandchildren,29 great grandchildren;six great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
