Michael Manchester
Mike Manchester, age 53, of Lansing, Iowa, formerly of Waterloo, passed away of leukemia Friday morning, March 17, 2006, at his home in rural Lansing.
Mike was born in New Hampton, Iowa, December 28, 1952, to Curtis and Helena (Schmitt) Manchester.
Mike attended St. Joseph’s grade school and graduated from Columbus High School in Waterloo. He retired from John Deere Tractor Works in 2000 after 30 years of service.
Mike was an avid nature lover who enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and gardening near the Mississippi River and the Boundary Waters of Minnesota. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was a committed lifetime learner and mentor. He will be missed by all.
Survivors include four children, Joshua (Suzanne) Manchester of Chicago, Ill., Jacob Manchester of Denver, Colo., Dannielle Manchester of Waterloo, and Kimberly (Mario) Mata of Waterloo; one grandson, Isaac Mata; a nephew, Bob (Sonya) Mervin of Waterloo; his father Curtis Manchester of Rogers, Ark.; two sisters, Christina (Jerry) Langham of Waterloo and Juanita (Terry) Stewart of Waterloo; a half-brother, Duane Manchester of Florida; and a very special friend, Lisa Bulman of Caledonia, Minn., as well as his faithful dog Georgie.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Helena Manchester in 2004, and a sister, Susanne Manchester in 1960.
Memorial services were held at Queen of Peace, formerly St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Waterloo, Saturday, March 25, 2006. The Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home in Lansing assisted the family with local arrangements.
